Francisco Dittborn Baeza’s collection of tools spans over two centuries from the 19th to the 20thCentury; there are more than 2000 tools which he diligently collected in the span of 20 years, and they cover all the necessary stages of a carpentry job.
However, more than tools, what he has amassed is the collective genius behind every tool, and how mankind has figured out ways of creating and resolved the difficulties of carpentry jobs of every sort.
We are passionate about the story and history behind each tool: who imagined them, who made them, what was their original purpose, who used them, on what, what did they look like when new… to imagine also the hands of the carpenter and think, above all else, how we can honour their work by truly valuing each of these tools.
